Panthers start season 1-1

The women’s soccer team started their season off on the right foot, defeating Chicago State, 5-0, at home on Aug. 22.  This was only the second meeting between the two programs with the Panthers also taking the first matchup in 2017 by the same score of 5-0.

UNI was able to record a rare accomplishment in the game against Chicago State as five different Panthers found the back of the net. The Purple and Gold wasted no time as they scored their first goal just two minutes into the game off an assist by Madalyn Germann setting up Jamie Althiser for the goal. Four minutes passed until the Panthers grabbed the early 2-0 lead just six minutes into the game with Sydney Hayden recording the second goal. Jordyn Rolli also scored in the first half at the 37-minute mark extending the lead to a commanding three-point margin.

The second half opened up with scoring early. Germann added to her assist by finding the back of the net on a penalty kick in the 49th minute. The Purple and Gold finished their 5-0 rout of Chicago State as Sophia Conant scored the final goal for the Panthers.

Following the game with Chicago State, the Panther women traveled to Iowa City to take on the Hawkeyes on Aug. 25. The Panthers allowed two quick goals to the Hawkeyes, but were able to find the net as Rolli closed the deficit to just one goal. The Hawkeyes proved to be too much to handle as they would go on to score two more goals in the first half and two in the second to take down the Panthers, 6-1.

Up next, the Panthers will take on the University of Nebraska-Omaha at home on Friday, Aug. 30.
