I think we can all agree that the Schindler remodel is a necessity that is long overdue. I am currently sitting in Schindler reminiscing on all the classes I took in this building. For those of you who don’t know I am a secondary math education major and I have a few classes every semester in Schindler.
I am sad that it will be gone the next year and a half, because I really think that it is one of the coolest looking buildings on campus. I love how the windows are overlooking the whole campus and you can see almost everything from sixth floor.
If you look at the vision for the renovation of Schindler then you can see that the classrooms that they are envisioning are really awesome and provide a great atmosphere for learning. As a future educator I can see why they are remodeling these classrooms, because the classrooms that Schindler has now are not very set for learning.
Because Schindler will be in a remodel stage for at least the next 18 months this puts a lot of stress on the other buildings around campus, because not only will they have to find classes in Schindler, but also office space for the faculty.
Most likely it will take longer than 18 months. In my “expert” opinion, I think it will take more than two years before the remodel is done.
This will mean that I will never be able to have a class in Schindler. That makes me a little sad.
When I first visited campus I thought that Schindler was the sweetest building on campus, and I was really looking forward to having classes in that building. Although, actually having classes in that building has changed my mind about wanting to have classes in it at all.
I really don’t like the lighting that is in the classrooms and the setup of each room isn’t very helpful for learning.
Also, if you have ever tried to find a room in Schindler then you know what I am talking about when I say it is the hardest thing in the world to find a room. The setup of the room numbers were put together by someone who wasn’t in the right mind. Let’s just say that it was designed in the 1960’s…
I can’t say I will miss walking around Schindler trying to find my class on the first day of class, but I will miss the building as a whole. I don’t think that it is only me that is sad to see it go, but most of campus will miss it for those two years. Although I am very excited to see what will come out of the renovations and remodeling. I think that this will only make UNI more marketable and I am very excited for that.
