When I first visited campus, one of the first things students told me about the University of Northern Iowa was how committed the campus community was to their success. Students told me that faculty members set high expectations in their classes and programs so that they would be prepared to be successful in their careers and personal lives once they graduated from UNI. They quickly added that the faculty and staff worked hard to help every student achieve those expectations, and that their classmates supported each other to succeed in the classroom and beyond. This culture of commitment to the success of students has been a hallmark of the University of Northern Iowa experience throughout our history.
