Evan Winter, a fourth-year finance and accounting student, is running for Northern Iowa’s student government president. He will be pursuing his master’s degree in accounting at UNI during his potential presidential term. Winter has had experience in student government, holding the position of director of finance for NISG through the 2024-2025 academic year.
Cooper Messina is a junior double majoring in political science and public administration. He is also minoring in Spanish. Messina is running alongside Winter as vice president. Messina started out as a senator for NISG, but has acted as speaker of the senate for the past two years. Messina is an active member of the student body, attending various athletic events throughout his years at UNI.
Winter and Messina coined their campaign with the acronym “VOICE.” The slogan of their campaign is “Let us be your VOICE, let us fight for you!”
“VOICE” stands for visibility, objectivity, inclusion, collaboration and empowerment. Winter and Messina aim to increase the importance of these values for UNI’s student body.
One of the biggest issues for Winter and Messina is the lack of relationship between NISG and the student body. Both candidates feel as though there’s a disconnect among students and the NISG. The two aim to be the “VOICE” for UNI students.
