College Hill & Chill
Aug 25, 2016
Live music. Funnel cakes. Slip and slide. Oh my!
The College Hill Partnership, a non-profit organization dedicated to community and economic development in Cedar Falls’ historic College Hill district, is holding their first ever carnival event this Saturday, Aug. 27, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
The event, dubbed “College Hill Fall Kickoff,” will be highlighted by a 200 foot slip and slide down the middle of College Street. In addition, there will be a dunk tank, the proceeds of which will go to the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Cedar Valley. The dunk tank will reportedly feature many local figures from UNI and the surrounding community. Carnival goers who pay five dollars will receive unlimited rides down the lengthy slip and slide.
Along with carnival food and entertainment all over the hill, many local College Hill businesses will be hosting either food or game booths. The main attractions will be in the parking lot off the corner of College and West 22nd Street.
Cam Draude, senior public administration major, serves as the College Hill Partnership coordinator. According to Draude, the organization has partnered with numerous organizations in the area for the upcoming event.
“The proceeds from the Dunk Tank will go to the Boys and Girls Club, but we have also partnered with Red Bull for on-site promotional purposes,” Draude said. “We would not be able to put on this event – and some of the others we are in the process of planning – without the commitment and support of our very own College Hill businesses. This is our first time doing an event of this caliber, and we could not be more excited.”
As for the organization’s future, Draude stressed the College Hill Partnership’s goal of bringing more recognition to College Hill. “Ultimately, our goal with this event is to showcase College Hill for what it is: an incredible place to live, learn, work and play,” Draude said. “We believe in providing arts, entertainment, and above all, community to the businesses and individuals who make the College Hill area such a unique and special piece of the city of Cedar Falls.”
