SOPHIE HOFFMEIER, 2023-2024 Managing Editor
I’m a senior double majoring in English and religious studies, with a minor in creative writing. I’ve been working with the Northern Iowan since January 2022, serving as copy editor until August 2023, when I was given the opportunity to be the managing editor.  I started my student journalism career in 2020 during my junior year of high school, where I was one of three students in my school’s new Intro to Journalism class. When COVID shut down the school, our little class continued to work on building our student news site, The Orbit, which still publishes today. I served as an editor and web designer until graduating in 2021. Though I don’t write often, I still enjoy working behind the scenes to bring UNI and the Cedar Valley community quality news by working on the website. I like to work on major feature pieces when I get the chance to, whether it be highlighting small businesses or getting the latest updates on campus construction.
